Privacy Policy
Short version: Fair Shout has no user accounts, does not track you across other websites, and only turns analytics cookies on if you accept them. We use Google Analytics after opt-in to count pageviews, plus a small amount of pseudonymous click data via Cloudflare. Full detail below.
Who we are
Fair Shout is operated by MARANOX TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED, a UK/Ireland software team. In UK data-protection terms, we are the data controller for the site at fairshout.co.uk. You can reach us at contact@maranox.ie.
What we collect when you visit
Every page request to fairshout.co.uk is served through Cloudflare, which acts as our infrastructure processor. Cloudflare's edge logs automatically record, for a short period:
- Your IP address (used to protect against abuse and route the request)
- The page you requested
- The HTTP referrer header (the page you came from, if any)
- Your browser User-Agent string
- A rough country code derived from your IP
These are handled by Cloudflare under their privacy policy. We retain nothing beyond what Cloudflare's standard retention keeps.
What we collect when you click through to an operator
When you click a competition on the leaderboard, you pass through a redirect at /go/:source/:id. That redirect records:
- Which operator you clicked (e.g.
ELITE,DCG) - Which specific draw (the competition's ID on the operator's system)
- The country code Cloudflare attached to the request
- The HTTP referrer header
We do not store your IP in these click records, nor any other identifier that could single you out. The purpose is to see which draws draw interest, so we can prove the tool is useful before approaching operators about formal partnerships.
What Google Analytics receives
Fair Shout loads Google Analytics 4 to count pageviews and understand how the leaderboard is used. We've configured it in Consent Mode v2 with analytics storage denied by default. In practical terms:
- No
_gacookie is set unless you accept analytics. - If you accept, Google Analytics sets its normal analytics cookie so we can see aggregate visits, pages viewed, rough geography, browser/device type, and traffic source.
- If you decline, we keep analytics storage denied and do not send the Google Analytics pageview.
- Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so we do not ask on every page.
Google's processing terms: policies.google.com/privacy. To opt out later, clear Fair Shout's site data in your browser or install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
What we do NOT collect or do
- No analytics cookies before consent. Google Analytics only starts normal collection after you accept the analytics prompt.
- No accounts. There's nothing to sign up for.
- No Meta Pixel, no advertising networks, no session replay. Google Analytics is the only optional analytics tag.
- No cross-site profiling. We don't correlate visits to Fair Shout with your activity anywhere else.
- No sale or sharing. We do not sell or share any visitor data with third parties beyond our direct infrastructure processors (Cloudflare and Google).
If we add search-console verification tags
The site's HTML may include verification meta tags for Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools (currently only Google's is populated). These do not track visitors — they prove to those services that we own this domain, so we can see which search queries the site appears for. Those search-performance reports are aggregated statistics, never tied to individual users.
Cloudflare Web Analytics (currently off)
If we later enable Cloudflare Web Analytics for the site, it is a cookieless, privacy-friendly service. It does not use cookies, does not set identifiers, and does not track users across websites. Cloudflare acts as our processor under the same arrangement as above.
Retention
Cloudflare edge logs: Cloudflare's standard retention (short, measured in days).
Click records via /go/: retained indefinitely but without any identifier that could link back to you — they are statistical counts of "X operator was clicked, draw Y, from country Z."
If we later enable Cloudflare Analytics Engine for aggregated click counts, retention there is also short (days to weeks).
Your rights under UK GDPR
Even though we collect very little personal data, UK GDPR gives you rights in relation to any that is yours:
- Access — ask what we hold about you
- Erasure — ask us to delete data we hold about you
- Object — ask us to stop processing your data
- Complain — raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
In practice, because we don't store your IP with click records and analytics is optional, there may not be a record linked to you individually to retrieve. If you'd like to know for certain, email contact@maranox.ie and include the approximate date and IP range from which you visited and we'll help as best we can.
Children
Prize competitions are for adults. Fair Shout displays a prominent 18+ notice. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and the site is not designed to appeal to minors.
Links to operator sites
When you click through to a competition operator (Elite Competitions, Dream Car Giveaways, etc.), you leave Fair Shout and enter the operator's website, which has its own privacy policy and cookie practices. We have no control over what they collect there.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where relevant, note the change on the site.
